Reading Notes: Bible Women Part A

Rebekah: King James Bible (1611): Genesis 24 and Genesis 25
This story is from the bible so it takes a little more time to comprehend exactly what is going on. I liked the story because of the history behind it. I am going to focus on the character Rebekah.

  • Rebekah
    • Born to Bethuel
    • Son of Milcah
    • wife of Nahor (Abraham's brother)
    • she worked hard and drew water for the camels
    • encounters a man with earrings and bracelets who claims to be Abrahams's servant
This story was actually kind of hard for me to understand so I ended up googling and found some good information from Bible Gateway. The name Rebekah actaully means "animal connection" which makes a lot of sense because in the reading she was always caring for the animals and getting them water. Chapter 24 of Genesis is actually referring to the way in which Isaac found his wife who happens to be Rebekah. The marriage and love between Isaac and Rebekah is seen through many stories in the bible. I would like to read more about the relationship between Isaac and Rebekah throughout the bible.

Hannah: King James Bible (1611): 1 Samuel 1

What stuck out to me most about the story of one woman named Hannah in the bible was the plot behind the story and the different events that happened. I think that I could base a story in the future after some of the events.

Who was Hannah?

  • wife to Elkanah
  • she had no children
When Hannah's husband, Elkanah, went to the city and sacrifice and worship he gave to his other wife Peninnah and her children. However, he gave a worthy amount to Hannah because he truly loved Hannah even though the Lord had closed her womb. Hannah was very upset that she could not have children and it did not help that Peninnah would rub it in her face. One day, Hannah poured her heart out to God, asking for a child. Later that year, she conceived and gave birth to a son. She was overjoyed by this and dedicated her son to God for life as well as dedicated herself. I like this story because I grew up as a christian and I am often told to pray about things over and over and although it may not seem like anyone is listening or acting you never really know what could happen in the next year or even the next day. The picture below is what I imagine Hannah looking like when she poured her heart out to God.
