Johnny Gloke Story source:  More English Fairy Tales  by Joseph Jacobs with illustrations by John D. Batten (1894). Johnny Gloke was a tailor. Soon he grew tired of his tailoring and wished  to  try something else. At first he did not know  what to do so he pondered about what he would do next. One day he was outside enjoying the weather. A fly started to bother him and he swang and killed multiple flies. After traveling a long way, he came across a country that was troubled by two giants. He was told about the giants and learned that the king of the country had offered a great reward if someone was strong enough to overcome the giants. The king offered the hand of his daughter for whoever was able to conquer the giant.  John hid in a tree thinking of his safety and made a plan of action. He saw the giants coming and picked up a pebble and threw it at him. The giant that got hit with the pebble turned to the other giant and bla...

The coyote was a very tricky animal, he was always coming up with plans to trick other animals for his benefit. One day, he went to a prairie dog town and told all of the prairie dogs to shut their doors and come to the dance. The prairie dogs did as they were told because they trusted the coyote and were very excited to attend the dance. As the prairie dogs were dancing in the circle, the coyote began to throw stones at them and hit them. The coyote told the prairie dogs that the dancing is what was making them fall down and get hurt when really it was the coyote throwing the stones at the prairie dogs. One of the smaller prairie dogs noticed that the coyote had a stone in his hand and told all of the other prairie dogs to return back to their rooms and hide. His mother always used to tell him that he needed to be a good boy or else Mr. Miacca would come and take him. One day, Tommy was acting up and Mr. Miacca swooped Tommy up and put him into his bag. When Mr. Miacca got inside he pulled Tommy out and told his that he was going to eat him for dinner. Mr. Miacca left Tommy with his wife while he went out to get the herbs he needed to cook Tommy wife. Tommy convinced Mrs. Miacca to let him run home and get pudding for Mr. Miacca. Once upon a time, an old woman was sweeping her house and found a crooked sixpence. The old woman wondered what she should buy with the money and decided that she would go to the market and buy a little pig. One the way home from buying the pig from the market, the woman and the pig reached a stile and the pig would not cross it. Along came a dog and the old woman told the dog to bite the pig so that the pig would cross the stile and they could get home. However, the dog would not  bite the pig. Next, the woman ran into a stick and she asked the stick to poke the pig in order to get over the stile. The stick would not poke the pig. The woman then ran into water, fire, ox, butcher, rat, cat, rope, ox and they both denied to help her get the pig over the stile. Finally, the woman ran into a cow and asked if he would help her. Pinterest is such a cool website, if you have never been on the website you should definitely go check it out! I have been using pinterest for about two years now so I am pretty familiar with searching for different things and pinning things to different boards. One of my favorite things to search for is dinner recipes. There are so many easy things to make that show you step by step instructions on how to make them. I have a bunch of recipes under a board a named "food". There is so many different topics you can research on pinterest from educational to fashion. I can spend hours browsing through pages of pictures.

Before reading the information about configuring canvas notifications, I had already personalized them for my liking. What I like about canvas is you could have the notification text you or email you. Also, it is very easy to personalize what you like to get notified about. For me I have my canvas notifications only emailing me when grades are put into the grade book. I know some people like to set it where it reminds them when assignments are due and all of that, but I like to keep my email pretty clean and not full of canvas notifications! If you haven't looked into customizing your notifications on canvas, you definitely should.

Customizing your canvas profile is something that I suggest everyone to do. The reason I did it is because I saw one of my peer's tech tip on it and decided to look into what all you can do. The main thing that I did was change my canvas picture to an updated picture of me. I feel like this is really helpful for the professors who use the canvas site in order to get to know their students. Also, this my peers are able to see this image when click on the students in the class. I kept my display name the same because I only go by one name. However, this is a nice feature for people who go by their middle name or nick name! Overall, I think canvas is an awesome site and everyone should explore it a little bit.

Coyote Steals a Man's Wife Story source:  Jicarilla Apache Texts  edited by Pliny Earle Goddard (1911). This story starts out very interesting. A man was standing on a rock and it rose into the sky. The coyote stole the man's wife and moved away with her. The man remained on top of the rock where he lived alone because he could not get off of the rock. The rest of the community also moved away leaving the man on top of the rock completely alone. After a long time of  living  on the rock, the man got off of the rock and came into the place where the community used to be and no one was there. He went from camp fire to camp fire searching for his  wife  and the  people who he used to live with but at each campfire they were not there and had not been there for awhile. Coyote Secures Fire Story source:  Jicarilla Apache Texts  edited by Pliny Earle Goddard (1911). I chose this story to take notes on  because  it is dealing with animals and that is the focus of my portfolio. Also, I live in Lawton, OK which is close to a large part of the Apache tribes. Upon a hill, the fireflies had their came and were the only animals who had fire and they were playing hoop and pole with the otters. There was no way to get to the firefly camp because there was no trail leading up to the camp. The coyote was frustrated by this. He was seeking a way to get to the fireflies in order to get the fire, but he could not find a way to get there. He went to the children and asked if they knew if there was a way to get to the camp and the children would not tell him. Once upon a time there was a huge fight between the animals and the birds in a forest. The forest they lived in was full of huge trees, plentiful nuts, plants, and fruits, and large rivers. Even though there was enough food and water for everyone the animals and birds could not seem to live together in the forest peacefully. There was constant fights over the water, food, and where each of the animals and birds lived. One day the leader of the animals, the bear, and the leader of the bird, the eagle, decided that they would play a game of baseball in order to decide who would be in charge of the forest. The story  go  the ball game of the birds and the animals begins when the animals  challenged the birds to a great ball game. The leaders of each team made the arrangements and decided on a day in which the ball game would take place. The captain of the animals was the bear, who was very strong. On the way to the ball field the bear was throwing logs and showing his strength, boasting to the other animals and birds. The animal team seemed to have many strengths: the strong bear, the tough terrapin, and the fast deer. The captain of the birds was the eagle. The birds had many strong players as well including the hawk and other large strong birds. However, they were still scared of the animals. The Journey to the Sunrise Source:    Myths of the Cherokee  by James Mooney (1900). A long time ago there was a group of men who set our to see where the sun lives and find out  what the sun is like. They packed corn and extra pairs of moccasins for their trip and began to walk east in order to find the sun. Along the journey they met tribes they knew, but as they got farther from home they started to meet tribes that they have never heard of before. They met tribes of all different beliefs and learned form them. They kept on traveling until finally they came to the place where the sky reaches down to the ground during the sunrise. They found that at the point where the sun lived there was an arch and a solid rock was always swinging through the door in which the sun comes out of every morning. One of the men tried to get into the door once the sun had passed through but he was struck by the rock. None of the other men were willing to try that...

Jackal and Monkey  Story source:  South African Folk-Tales  by James Honey (1910). The Jackal is once again visiting the corral of a farmer, but this time the farmer sets a trap to catch him. Every single evening the jackal went to the farmer's corral. He crept through a sliding door and stole a fat young lamb. The jackal did this several times with success until one day the farmer set a sip for him at the door. The jackal went again and was caught around the nose by a trap. He was swung into the air and swayed back and forth because his feet could not touch the ground. When morning came, a monkey approached the jackal and was flaunting in his face that he was caught by the farmer. The jackal acted like he was enjoying being in the trap and that he had planned to do it. This continued on and the jackal convinced the monkey to get him out of the trap. The acronym I came up with is: L ive I t F earlessly E very single day This acronym hits home for me because sometimes I find myself not doing something or not doing something to the best of my ability because I fear what may happen. I also sometimes fear about my future and what it all holds. This acronym reminds me to not fear and just live life every single day no matter what. I did not create a graphic for the acronym because I am not very creative.

Ever since the University started to use canvas, I have been exploring it and figuring out all of the details behind the dashboard page. One thing that I have done that has really helped me is changed the color card of my courses to match up with the color I write with in my planner for my course. This helped me to stay very organized and not mix up my classes and due dates. The tech tip did teach me that I can turn off the color on the cards that have an image. I did not know this and will be doing this right away. Overall, canvas dashboard is pretty easy to work. It also allows you to customize your dashboard, which I really like.

Looking back, I am very happy with my progress so far in this class. For the most part I have a routine of doing a lot of work for this class on Sunday and finishing the rest of the work for the week in my free time. Right now, I am ahead on the points because I have done some of the extra credit offered. Looking forward, I am definitely going to try and stay ahead especially with the end of the semester approaching a lot faster that I think. I am going to focus on doing 2 extra credit assignments each week along with the assignments due. I also need to be aware of my school schedule for the week and alter my work time for this class depending on that. Sometimes I find myself getting behind because I am focusing more on my other classes. Dog Memes

Overall, I feel really good about the feedback I am receiving in this class. I really find some of the comments to be helpful. I like when students leave feedback specifically about how to make my stories better and correcting my mistakes including my grammar and punctuation. I feel like I am leaving quality feedback for other students. I do feel like there are some stories that I can leave better feedback based on my knowledge of the topic. I also enjoy giving feedback because it helps me to better my stories in the future. The blog comments are actually really helpful in getting to know my classmates and their personalities. Looking forward, I would like to make sure I really focus on the feedback including giving others ideas for future stories as well as focus on the structural aspects of the stories. This is the feedback I enjoy, therefore I need to give it to other people as well. Right now, I am happy with my blog and portfolio. ( cheezburger )
